It’s only been 10 days, but December has been pretty eventful. Last Wednesday I had the opportunity to go the Golden State Warriors game with buddy of mine. He won a two-seat, 10-game pack as part of a radio contest for this season was nice enough to invite me to go with him.
The Warriors were playing the Milwaukee Bucks, which was cool because their head coach is a Montana native. For anyone that doesn’t know he’s the leading scorer in UM history. He also coached the Griz Basketball team for two years winning the Big Sky both years and upsetting Nevada in the first round of the tournament in 2006 (the 12-5 upset that year).
When I heard him that spring at the UM School of Business Advisory Board meetings he had just withdrawn his name from consideration at Pepperdine. He talked about being glad to be staying put for his family’s sake. I guess a coaching job in the NBA was too much of an opportunity to pass up though. Especially to Milwaukee where he started his NBA career as a player.
So on Wednesday night I found myself pulling for the Bucks more than the Warriors, but it didn’t help. The Warriors blew the Bucks out of the arena winning 120 to 90. The game was still fun though. There were a couple nice dunks by a guy who played for the Warriors and it was good to get out of the house and do some guy stuff. Even if we were two rows from the top of the area…Club 200 all the way!!!
To his credit my buddy Steve normally has a knack for scoring ridiculously good seats to games. Last year he managed to get us a couple of great seats lower level for game four of the playoff series against the Jazz. I watch Carlos Boozer make the Warriors look silly. That and Jessica Alba who was sitting court-side. During baseball season it’s been even better. I’ve been to two or three Giants games with Steve where we sat two rows behind the dugout. Our last game was the first game that Barry Bonds tried to break the homerun record. So one game two rows from the top of the arena wasn’t anything I was going to complain about.
Thursday night was also fun as it was the smaller Internet Marketing Christmas party. It’s always nice to spend time away from the office. That’s the one great thing about eBay in general and the IM team specifically, everyone seems to play almost as hard as the work (see my Dublin pictures if you don’t believe me). I had a great time and still ended up home relatively early which was good because Toni and I had plans for the next night.
Friday Toni and I went into San Francisco to watch Glenn Beck’s Christmas Show. We took the BART into the city and were actually able to visit. Sometimes I forget what it’s like to be a couple, so it was nice to have some time to sit and talk with my wife. We had a few minutes to kill before the show started so we grabbed a Starbucks, walked for a while up California Street, finally hailed a cab and managed to get there well before the show started.
The show was pretty funny and had a great message. Plus with our seats we each got a copy of Glenn’s book. After the show we walked down to Union Square to see the Christmas tree and have some dinner. Lucky for us we just missed a shooting (ah the city life). All in all it was a good night and a nice start to the Christmas season.
